The Syracuse International Film Festival is a
collaboration between the communities and educational institutions of
Syracuse and Central NY. The festival accepts submissions from
professional film and video makers, and has a special category for
Central New York filmmakers. In order to qualify, an artist must be a
native of Central New York residing elsewhere, presently reside in
Central New York, or have received his/her education in Central New
York. Central New York films, while singled out for prizes, must qualify
under the general prescreening rules. All films are prescreened blind,
and there are no acceptances based on any criteria other than the
quality of the film. The festival accepts works from all countries. Cash
awards will be given. There were more than 12 award categories in the
2011 festival.
The festival recognizes the need to promote
the work of film and video artists beyond that of competition screenings
and awards. Therefore, the festival arranges for further programming of
competition films throughout the festival year in venues that will
generate additional press and opportunities for filmmakers.
All members of the selection jury will be
professional film and/or video artists/critics.
Competition judges will be highly renowned
film and/or video artists. Past judges have included: Henry Selick
(Animator/Director of James and the Giant Peach, The Nightmare Before
Christmas, et. al.) Peter Weller (Director/Actor, RoboCop, Naked Lunch,
Mighty Aphrodite), Yvonne Belen (documentary filmmaker from Puerto
Rico), Carol Morley (award winning documentary filmmaker from England),
Gennady Poloka (renown Russian Filmmaker), Sang In Lee (award winning
Korean Filmmaker), Robert Edwards (Writer whose credits include an
Academy Award nomination for Treasure Planet) Jaime Davidivich (Video

Industrial Light and Magic - Lucas Films, now producer for Pixar), Moshe
Mizrahi (Academy Award winning Director, Madame Rosa), Jay Wolpert
